Position title: Vice Provost for Enrollment Management

Derek Kindle is the Vice Provost for Enrollment Management and provides overall leadership for the Division of Enrollment Management which comprises Undergraduate Admissions & Recruitment, Student Financial Aid, Registrar and the Student Success Through Applied Research (SSTAR) Lab.

Derek has over 20 years of experience in higher education and has held roles in Admissions, Financial Aid, Bursar, and Enrollment Management. A nationally recognized higher education expert, he serves in leadership positions with organizations including the National Association for Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA), the College Board, the Higher Education Loan Coalition (HELC), and American Talent Initiative (ATI). Currently, Derek is on the faculty of the University of Southern California Rossier School of Education’s Center for Enrollment Research, Policy and Practice (USC CERPP) program, co-directs the National Association for College Admissions Counseling (NACAC) CHIEFS program for new and emerging enrollment leaders and served on the College Cost Transparency Initiative Taskforce. Previously, Derek was a commissioner for the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET), a member of the U.S. Department of Education’s Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) design team and contributed to an early Government Accountability Office study on FAFSA simplification.

Prior to his current role, Derek was UW-Madison’s Director of Student Financial Aid from July 2016 to March 2020 and oversaw the administration of nearly $480M in federal, state, institutional, and private aid.

Derek earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees with honors at Howard University in Washington, DC.
